Knicks stay alive, throttle Pacers to force Game 6Knicks Stay Alive as Pacers Fall Short in Close Game 5

In a nail-biting finish that kept the Eastern Conference finals on the edge of elimination, the New York Knicks emerged victorious in Game 5 against the Indiana Pacers, securing their grip on the series. With the stakes at 3-2 in the best-of-seven playoff matchup, Jalen Brunson delivered a masterclass on offense and defense, scoring 32 points while grabbing eight rebounds and dishing out four assists to lead the Knicks to an 87-85 overtime victory.

Karl-Anthony Towns also played a pivotal role in the Knicks' comeback, hitting 14-of-16 from the free throw line and dropping 24 points on a night when he had to make big plays down the stretch. His ability to control the pace of the game and create open looks for his teammates was crucial as the Knicks pushed the series to Game 6.

The Pacers, who had dominated much of the first four games, struggled to find consistency in their offense and couldn't convert on clutch free throws. Pacers center Myles Turner also missed a key shot at the buzzer that would have sealed the game for the Knicks, further cementing the Pacers' place as the underdog heading into Game 6.

While the Pacers showed signs of life late in the game with several solid possessions, they ultimately couldn't overcome their mental edge from earlier in the series. With the Knicks locked in on a defensive intensity that mirrored their Game 4 performance, the Pacers simply couldn’t find their rhythm down the stretch.

As the Knicks head to Madison Square Garden for Game 6, they enter as the slight favorites with a commanding lead in momentum and experience at this stage of the playoffs. Meanwhile, the Pacers are still hanging on by a thread, needing a miracle against a team that has shown time and again it can hang with the best.

In a series that's already defined by tight margins, one more Game 6 could decide not just which team advances further but who will ultimately claim the NBA Championship. The Knicks will look to build on their momentum and prove they belong as one of the best teams in the league. For the Pacers, every point lost here could mean elimination.

As the series heads into Game 6, one thing is clear: the Knicks are still very much in control of their own destiny—and this time, they're ready to take it into their own hands.
